Are you passionate about protecting Puget Sound? We are looking to recruit new Rain Garden Mentor Volunteers who are enthusiastic about safeguarding our water resources & sharing the benefits of rain gardens and other green stormwater solutions with the community. Come learn from a variety of speakers including industry leaders, experienced Rain Garden Mentors and local agency professionals in this training that is held over 4 days.
This FREE training is open to current Master Gardeners, Stream Stewards and Beach Naturalists. Volunteering with the Rain Garden Mentor Program can count towards Master Gardener annual re-certification requirements. Attendance at all four days of training is requested, please, in order to take advantage of the training free of charge.
October 14th, 2016 1:30-5pm in room 406
Topics: Intro to rain gardens; overview of the Rain Garden Mentor volunteer program; Intro to Perc tests with fun take-home project and reading assignment.
October 20th & 21st, 9am-4pm in First Floor Chambers
Topics: Rain garden benefits; Site constraints & regulations: septic systems, wells and Kitsap County requirements; Design, installation & cost considerations; Rain Garden Soils--function and specifications; Rain garden plants; Maintenance; Other techniques to protect water; Interactive design exercise.
October 28th, 9:30am-1:30pm in Room 406
Topics: How to access sites for rain gardens; How to do online property searches; Introduction to Rain Garden Mentor demonstration tools and resources.
