Salmon in the Classroom Orientation, Silverdale


“Attention Volunteers: The Salmon in the Classroom program needs you! 

Each year the Clear Creek Task Force and their partners come together to offer two fun-filled weeks for 4th and 5th grade field trips to Clear Creek. This program is known as "Salmon in the Classroom." Students raise salmon in tanks in their classrooms and release their fry into Clear Creek. They also learn about water quality, stream bugs, and habitat at various outdoor stations. Volunteers are partnered with staff from various agencies, and many volunteers are needed to help fill 2 hour shifts.

The Salmon in the Classroom project was started over 20 years ago by the Central Kitsap Kiwanis Club. It is now a partnership with the Clear Creek Task Force, Silverdale Kiwanis Club, Clean Water Kitsap, Kitsap Public Utility District, United Van Lines, Suquamish Tribe, Air Management Solutions and over 30 local classrooms with the shared goal of enhancing the salmon population in Clear Creek and educating students on the importance of ecosystems.
