Salmon Docent Training, part 1

Salmon Docent Training - registration open

Become a docent at Salmon Tours this year! Two-part training on Oct.4th and Oct. 11th.

 2018 Salmon Docent training registration is officially open! This 2-part training will be held on October 4th and 11th from 9am - 3pm. The WSU Extension Kitsap Water Stewardship Program facilitates this educational opportunity every year and recruits and prepares volunteers to share their salmon knowledge during the annual Kitsap Salmon Tours event. Salmon docents will be assisting with the November 3, 2018 Salmon Tours event.

 2018 Salmon Docent Training Schedule:

Salmon Docent Training Part 1: Salmon species, life cycle, and anatomy
Thursday, October 4, 2018, 9am-3pm
Location: Microbiology lab, Olympic College, 1600 Chester Ave., Bremerton
Field trip: Grovers Creek Hatchery tour

Salmon Docent Training Part 2: Salmon habitat and regional challenges
Thursday, October 11, 2018, 9am-3pm
Location: Clear Creek Sa’qad Interpretive Center, 9641 Levin Rd., Silverdale
Field trip: Habitat exploration on Clear Creek Trail

Salmon Tours, Saturday, November 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This well-attended public outreach occurs at eight sites around the county, with the goal of getting people outside to view and learn about salmon. The eight sites are Chico Salmon Park, Chico Creek Mouth, Clear Creek Trail Ridgetop Pavilion, Cowling Creek, Jarstad Park, Keta Legacy Foundation Rhododendron Preserve, Poulsbo Fish Park, and the Salmon Haven at Dickerson Creek. Salmon docents will be helping conduct these tours. More information is at Kitsap SalmonTours.org

 If you are interested in taking the 2018 training, we encourage you to sign up soon at: https://2018salmondocent.bpt.me. Space is limited. Trainees who volunteer during Salmon Tours also receive the Kitsap Salmon Field Guide which is an informative and accessible reference handbook that covers a wide range of topics around our local salmon.
