City of Bainbridge Island places significant restrictions on shellfish farming.

As discussed in a recent Kitsap Sun article, the city of Bainbridge Island passed an aquaculture ordinance that would ban the use of plastic in all marine farming on the Bainbridge shoreline, restrict the numbers of acres available to grow shellfish, and protect marine grasses and fish habitat. The ordinance needs approval by the state, and it’s anticipated there will be pushback by the Department of Ecology and by the aquaculture industry.
