On 4 December, the Kitsap County Commissioners will be voting on a new stormwater fee rate structure for the 2019 stormwater permit. Kitsap County’s stormwater permit fees, which are some of the lowest in the region, are used to reduce flooding, improve fish habitat, and prevent pollution from reaching streams and the Puget Sound. These fees also fund key programs and projects such as Stream Stewards, Rain Garden Mentors, Septic Sense workshops, Septic Sense workshops, Salmon Tours, Salmon Docent Training, Kitsap Conservation District's Backyard Habitat Grant and Rain Garden programs, Drainage Sense workshops, stormwater ponds, stormwater parks, floodplain restoration, and culvert replacements. These programs and projects provide much education to us about our home, and they engage many citizen volunteers in working to protect it.
